Recreation in the forests of the Central coast and Hunter region
Forests NSW' Hunter Region manage 211,000 hectares of native forest from Gosford on the central coast north to Forster, including Gloucester, out to Putty and Wollembi in the west.
The area contains some of the most popular recreation areas in NSW, including the State forests of the Watagan Mountains. The Watagans contain many camping grounds, picnic areas, lookouts and walking trails that are readily accessible for day-trippers or campers from Sydney, the central coast, Newcastle and the Hunter. Strickland State Forest, near Narara on the central coast, is also a popular area to visit during the day, with walking trails winding through rainforest and a tranquil picnic area.
We recommend purchasing the Central Coast Forest Map to assist you in fully exploring this area.
