Forests NSW will again offer a range of exciting events for students and teachers over the next twelve months. Most events are offered free of charge or at minimal cost.

“The event program is part of the education program that is conducted out of Cumberland State Forest” Forests NSW education officer, Gerard Nolan said. “These programs have been running for over 10 years and have proven very popular with the students and are highly regarded by the teachers.”

World Forestry Day Celebrations

Event name: World Forestry Day
Event theme: Careers in Forestry
Event venue: Cumberland State Forest

Description

Come and join in the fun that will be part of this important celebration.
Discover the new range of posters designed to assist students explore careers in forestry. Find your way around the forest on our orientation course activities. Attend the opening of Cumberland’s brand new education shelter. Participate in Forests NSW Careers Day event.

The Careers Day event will include sessions in the morning and afternoon on career opportunities. There will be a large number of presenters on the variety of careers offered within Forests NSW such as Ecologists, Research Scientists, GIS Analysts and Foresters.

Book in for a morning or afternoon session with the education officer.

Science in the Suburbs

Event name: Science in the Suburbs at Cumberland

Ever wondered why are there scientists carrying all that unusual gear into the forest?

Want to explore some exciting science in a bushland environment. What could be more inviting than a chance to explore Cumberland State Forest and to discover what is really happening in one of our many State forests.

This event is designed for high school science students who want to know more about applied science. It will be a practical and hands on experience for students. A wide range of activities and presenters will display and explain the diversity of science projects that the participating research scientists are working on. Book early.

A joint venture with the Australian Museum and an extension of their popular Science in the City (SITC) program.

Biodiversity Event

Event dates: 1st to 5th September 2008
Event name: Strickland State Forest Expo
Event theme: Forest management
Event venue: Strickland State Forest

Description

Get up close and personal with live animals and the local plant life. A full day program based around the theme of forest management is provided as part of this event. Students will have the chance to participate in a variety of activities and be challenged by the competitions that are part of this program. Teacher and student packages are provided prior to the event.
This well recognised annual event involves Taronga Zoo and Rumbalara Environmental Education Centres.
